About our name
The Cedar River Watershed is a magnificent mountain valley on the western slope of the Cascade Mountains that supplies most of Seattle’s drinking water. Its 96,000 acres include some of the region’s best remaining old growth forests and large and healthy populations of elk, bear, cougar, and dozens of other species. The Cedar River is one of the best salmon rivers in the region, alive with the largest sockeye salmon run in the lower 48 states.
As Mayor Charles Royer’s aide on environmental issues, founding partner Tom Byers worked to end logging in the watershed and commit the City of Seattle to preserving the watershed forever as a natural reserve and source of pure water for the people of the region.
A few years later, Cedar River Group was chosen by the city to organize the “Friends of the Cedar River Watershed” to assure that the vision was achieved and to raise funds to create the Cedar River Education Center.
Today the Cedar River Watershed is the nation’s largest municipally-owned natural area. And our firm is proud to have played a part in that achievement, and proud to carry the name of one of the Northwest’s most wonderful places.
