Farmworker Housing Needs Assessment

Client: SeaMar Community Health Centers

Created an updated assessment of the need for farmworker housing in Washington to brief the Governor and State Legislature. Reviewed available data to update a 2005 needs assessment. Assessed the progress of the state’s investments in permanent and seasonal housing for farmworkers, and estimated the current needs. Suggested strategic options legislators could consider to fill the needs. (2012)

Results: Governor Gregoire included $15 million for farmworker housing in her budget for the 2013 legislative session. The report, On Common Ground: Meeting the Need for Farmworker Housing in Washington State, was distributed to legislators, who increased the appropriation to $27 million.
