Street Vacation Process

Client: City of Seattle

Facilitated a process to identify options to update the city’s policies on street vacation (petitions for closing public right-of-way). Tasks included interviewing city and stakeholder representatives, facilitating a stakeholder advisory committee, and preparing a report on areas of consensus and potential improvements to the street vacation policies. (2016 – 2017)

Results: The Stakeholder Workgroup provided its report and recommendations to Councilmember Mike O’Brien, Chair of the City Council Sustainability and Transportation Committee. After committee review, staff will draft changes to the street vacation policies, with the aim of preparing legislation for the Council to consider in early 2018.
