About our name

The Cedar River Watershed is a magnificent valley on the western slope of the Cascade Mountains that supplies most of Seattle’s drinking water. Its 96,000 acres include some of the region’s best remaining old growth forests, populated by elk, bear, cougar and other species. The Cedar River hosts the largest sockeye salmon run in the lower 48 states.

Founding partner Tom Byers, as Seattle Mayor Charles Royer’s aide on environmental issues, worked to end logging in the watershed and commit the city to preserving it forever as a natural reserve and source of pure water. Cedar River Group’s founding partners chose the name to invoke what is best in the region.

A few years later, the city chose Cedar River Group to organize the “Friends of the Cedar River Watershed” to champion the vision and raise funds to create the Cedar River Education Center.

Our firm is proud to have played a part in preserving the watershed and to carry the name of one of the Northwest’s most wonderful places.
