Income Inequality Advisory Committee

Client: City of Seattle

Served as facilitator for the Seattle Mayor’s Income Inequality Advisory Committee. The 24-member committee was tasked with delivering an actionable set of recommendations for increasing the minimum wage within the city of Seattle to $15 per hour, with a phased-in schedule taking into account the complexity of conditions facing employers and workers. We worked with the two co-chairs to develop agendas for each full committee meeting and for subcommittee meetings. We facilitated the committee’s consideration of options and their potential impacts. We had considerable communication with committee members between meetings. (2014)

Results: The committee reached a strong consensus. The mayor  transmitted a formal proposal to the City Council, and the Council passed legislation in June 2014, which went into effect on April 1, 2015. See Mayor’s Office news advisory.
